Vertebral Stump Syndrome and Recurrent Embolic Stroke in Posterior Circulation: Surgical Treatment of Complex Cases

نویسندگان

چکیده

Vertebral artery stump syndrome refers to the migration of thrombi from an occluded vertebral origin into brain, causing posterior circulation strokes. Treatment has been debated, and no definite treatment established. This retrospective, single-center study included patients who had undergone carotid–vertebral bypass between January 2019 April 2022 identified institutional medical databases. The preoperative risk factors, symptoms, intraoperative details, postoperative outcomes, follow-up data were collected. A total seven included. All occlusion experienced ischemic stroke in suggestive syndrome, due aneurysms two patients, dissection subclavian aneurysm one patient, at V2 level patient. We performed direct revascularization through a (V3) four (Fig) transposition patients. There major perioperative adverse events or neurological complications. Direct is feasible, effective, safe technique for with acute subacute disease centers.

Reflux of Anterior Spinal Artery Predicts Recurrent Posterior Circulation Stroke in Bilateral Vertebral Artery Disease.

BACKGROUNDS AND PURPOSE Predictive value of reflux of anterior spinal artery for recurrent posterior circulation ischemia in bilateral vertebral arteries steno-occlusive disease was evaluated. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 55 patients with symptomatic posterior circulation stroke caused by bilateral stenotic (>70%) lesions of the vertebral artery. We investigated any correlation of clin...

Vertebral Artery Stump Syndrome

Carotid stump syndrome is a well-documented embolic source for ischemic stroke. However, few cases have been reported of a similar condition - termed vertebral artery stump syndrome - which affects the posterior circulation after vertebral artery origin occlusion. We herein report a case of infarction of the right superior cerebellar artery and left posterior inferior cerebellar artery territor...

Association between vertebral artery hypoplasia and posterior circulation stroke

BACKGROUND The clinical significance of vertebral artery (VA) hypoplasia is under discussion. The aim of this retrospective study is to evaluate a hypothesis of a possible causal link between VA hypoplasia (VAH) and the incidence of posterior circulation stroke (PCS) or TIA depending on the degree of VAH and vascular risk factors. METHODS A total of 367 symptomatic (PCS or TIA) and 742 asympt...

Posterior circulation ischaemic stroke.

There are important differences between posterior and anterior circulation stroke. The differences include the value of screening instruments, optimum diagnos‐ tic modalities, and clinical features (table). The face arm speech test (FAST), a widely used prehospital stroke recognition screening instrument, is less sensitive for detecting posterior circulation stroke than for anterior cir‐ culati...
